Whistler's Ski Season Motors Through April
Whistler Celebrates with Events & Activities During April 2007
For many ski towns, the winter season winds to a close in April but not in in Whistler. The storms of
winter have deposited an astonishing amount of snow still picture perfect in spring and ready-to-ski through
June – just ask the “Heavy Metal Motorcycle Mommas” who will race during the Mom’s Mountain Classic on April
11. Also yet to come is the biggest party of the winter season: the legendary TELUS World Ski and Snowboard
Festival brings ten days of winter sport, fashion, film, photography and Canada's largest free outdoor concert
series.
Sierra Wireless Whistler Cup - April 6-8, 2007

in its 15th year, Whistler Cup is North America's premier International Juvenile Ski Race for girls and
boys aged 11 to 14 years. The race brings together 350 athletes from more than 20 countries around the world.
Modeled after Disney's Trofeo Topolino Alpine Ski Races in Italy, the Sierra Wireless Whistler Cup has already
become the North American highlight of the international juvenile calendar. This FIS-sanctioned event is

ten days in what has become Canada's largest free outdoor concert series. This year’s line-up is as diverse
and eclectic as ever kicking off with Canada's own Sam Roberts on April 13.
Chairlift Revue – Monday, April 16 Chairlifts are a respite to the tired, a
godsend to the lazy and a soapbox to the chatty. Stepping into a gondola or boarding a chair, you never
know who you are going to meet or what they are going to say. New this year, TELUS Ski and Snowboard Festival’s
Chairlift Revue reunites talented writers with the over-the-top actors of Whistler’s Short Skirt Theatre
Company for an evening of original live theatre centered around conversations on a chairlift. The event
takes place in the born-again repertory Rainbow Theatre and doors open at 8 p.m. with the show starting
at 9 p.m.
Filmmaker Showdown - Tuesday, April 17 When the smoke clears after 72 hours
of shooting, editing and producing a short film within 100 kilometres of Whistler, all that's left on the
creative battlefield is 100 exhausted film making teams, eight incredible finalists and the hottest tickets
in the house. Whistler's infamous 72-hour Filmmaker Showdown has exploded into one of the Festival's must-see
showcases, and winning films go on to screenings around North America and to television audiences in over
50 countries. The competition, open to amateurs and professionals, teams or individuals - anyone who loves
to make films, offers prizes worth $15,000, including a camera and $2000 cash. Witness the cutting edge
of creative film making at the Gala screening at the TELUS Conference Centre, April 17.
Pro Photographer Showdown – Wednesday, April 18 Five of the world's best lifestyle
and action sports photographers are set to compete for a $10,000 prize in the 10th annual Pro Photographer
Showdown. At the Pro Photographer Showdown, the most dynamic moments in action sports are captured and mounted,
trophy-style, for an appreciative 2000-strong crowd in a series of self-curated, nine-minute multimedia
presentations. The winner will join an alumni that includes Kevin Zacher, Eric Berger and Aaron Chang, who
will judge the Showdown alongside Whistler's “King of Light” Paul Morrison, and long-time host of the Pro
Photographer Search, writer and creative mastermind Leslie Anthony.
