Whistler Counts Down to 2010 Winter Olympics and Paralympics

Whistler Celebrates with Events & Activities During February/March 2007

With a record snowfall Whistler counts down to the 2010 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games which are now just three years away. Celebrations start on February 12, exactly three years to go to the Opening Ceremonies of the Games.

Here are more details about the upcoming celebrations, activities and events:

Feb 12, 4 to 6:30 p.m.
Cutting of the Countdown Cake
The Vancouver 2010 Information Centre in Whistler
Includes performances by a host of local entertainers

February 13 through 28
'Sport of the Day' held daily
The Vancouver 2010 Information Centre in Whistler
A different Olympic or Paralympic sport discipline will be featured at the 2010 Info Centre. Includes sport demos, equipment displays, special guests and interactive fun for everyone.

February 17 and 18
2nd annual 2010 Street Hockey Tournament
The Vancouver 2010 Information Centre in Whistler
Eight teams of five will compete for prizes and bragging rights - a great spectator sport too.

February 18
Whistler Film Festival presents Whistler Stories
Whistler Village Gondola base
Six short films on a giant outdoor screen. A commissioned film program by the Whistler Film Festival with the goal of building a legacy program for the Whistler area in advance of the 2010 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games.

February 22,
Whistler Museum and Archives - Featured Files Series
Presenting the third part of a five-year series of films focusing on Whistler community members. Promoting the 2010 Winter Games spirit, fostering community pride in Whistler's history, heritage and culture, and creating an archival record that visually documents Whistler's people and places leading up to 2010.  Reception with entertainment follows the screening.

Whistler's Celebration 2010 activities have been organized by the Whistler Arts Council, in partnership with the Vancouver 2010 Organizing Committee (VANOC), the Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) and other community partners.
