Whistler Blackcomb Opens Superpipe on Blackcomb Mountain

Whistler Blackcomb is ready to open it's Superpipe on Blackcomb Mountain for Sunday December 15. Mountain official promise the the Pipe will be mid-season quality.

Snowboard JumpBlackcomb's Superpipe will open at full size -- 120 metre / 394 ft. in length with 5.5 metre / 18 ft.-high walls.

Blackcomb's operations crew have been working 24/7 getting the pipe ready with snowmaking, grooming and dining. All five of the Mountain's terrain parks will be operating. Skiers and riders will find a mix of jumps, rails, boxes, hips and picnic tables totaling 25 features in all for the Habitat and Nintendo Terrain Parks.

Brian Finestone, Whistler Blackcomb Terrain Park Supervisor noted...

"We’ve had our snow guns on full pull over the past couple of weeks to make sure we have the best pipe possible. We are making snow all over our parks and will have some larger jump features coming in the next week."

The Highest Level Park will officially open mid-December but larger features are being built on that side so people can get a feel for the bigger terrain and the flow of the park before the XL features are built. Skiers and riders can purchase their Highest Level pass when build-out is complete at Whistler Blackcomb ticket offices.

With over 70 acres of park terrain between Whistler and Blackcomb skiers and riders can experience any level of freestyle terrain they desire and progress at their own speed.

The world is looking (up) at Whistler

This week, one of the most exciting event of the year in Whistler is happening. The FIS World Cup stops at Whistler between February 21st et 24th.

Featuring men and women events, the races are happening on Creekside, just above Alpine Whistler's Taluswood accommodations. The best ski racers are coming to Whistler to compete in the Men's Super G, Women's Downhill, Men's Giant Slalom and Women's Super Combined. Imagine the thrill! World-class athletes buzzing down the hill at 120 kilometers per hour, enthusiast fans ringing cow bells on the hill and a plethora of parties and concerts to celebrate this very special event.

The action will be happening on Creekside but most of the runs will remain open all over both mountains, so you can go for a run in between races. There will be spectator pods all along the courses and at the bottom of course, so it's easy to come and watch your favorite team and skiers.

Everyone is more very excited that the World Cup circuit is coming back to Whistler this season, and that all athletes are going to be able to discover the Olympicy and Paralympic runs for 2010. At Alpine Whistler, we are thrilled, with th races happening just around our accommodations on the Dave Murray Downhill course. Watching World Cup and Olympic events from your living room? What a blast!

Check out out Whistler accommodations and come try the runs where the best skiers are competing. They're just at your door! Contact Alpine Whistler to learn more about your lodging options in Whistler this season and the next ones.
