Winter PRIDE, Whistler's 15th annual Gay Ski Week

Whistler throws open its doors to welcome gays and lesbians to the Winter PRIDE festival Feb. 4-11 2007.

The week-long Winter PRIDE Whistler festival involves numerous winter sports activities, entertainment and parties all in the name of celebration, socializing and raising money for good causes, including AIDS Vancouver.

Whistler's 2007 Winter PRIDE event (formerly known as Gay Ski Week) is in it's 15th year and will be a complete winter festival with a comprehensive range of activities to appeal to both ski enthusiasts and non-skiers. New additions to the festival this year include a continuing medical education program, a fitness boot camp, culinary classes and ZipTrek Eco Tours.

Organizers are expecting up to 2,500 members from gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender communities around the globe to take part in a wide variety of events on and off the slopes in a celebration of diversity.

What's On in Whistler - March 2007

The luck of the Irish has been bestowed upon Whistler early this year. Be sure to include the snow gods in your St. Patrick's Day toast!

Whistler Blackcomb Mountains has already surpassed the average annual snowfall of 33 feet (1,006 cm) with three months of ski season still remaining. Women's Week kicks off March with more than a week of "female fun". Off the slopes, visitors can join the community to celebrate the three-year countdown to the 2010 Paralympic Winter Games or check out the many cultural events taking place at Millenium Place or events presented by the Whistler Arts Council.

Whistler Ski Season Motors on in May 2007

For many ski towns, the winter season winds to a close in April but not in in Whistler. The storms of winter have deposited an astonishing amount of snow still picture perfect in spring and ready-to-ski through June – just ask the “Heavy Metal Motorcycle Mommas” who will race during the Mom’s Mountain Classic on April 11. Also yet to come is the biggest party of the winter season: the legendary TELUS World Ski and Snowboard Festival brings ten days of winter sport, fashion, film, photography and Canada’s largest free outdoor concert series.

Whistler Blackcomb has had a busy year; with last season's second largest snowfall on record, the opening of the Symphony Express high-speed quad lift in December 2006 and the construction launch of the world-record breaking Peak to Peak Gondola, set to span Whistler and Blackcomb mountains. Park Rider Series: Rail Jam on Whistler

Park Rider Sessions featuring Slopestyle, Rail Jams and Halfpipe will take place throughout the season on both mountains utilizing the best terrain available, starting December 16. Competitions open to skiers and snowboarders, all ages welcome. Helmets are mandatory.

Last days of 2007 in Whistler

Christmas is now gone, wrapping paper and ribbon are on the floor and leftovers of turkey diners in the fridge.
Between skiing and snowboarding the fresh snow and cosy evenings by the fire, the days seem to stretch while we’re waiting for the New Year.

December 30 Warren Miller will present his Playground film showcasing global destinations from Sweden to Canada through the Arabian Desert.

And of course there are still the innumerable other activities offered in Whistler, from outdoor sports to fondue nights, live music and much more.

Snow, snow, snow. And what else in Whistler?

Of course we could tell you more about all the snow that keeps falling (13 more centimetres in the past 24 hours) and the bright sunshine and the epic skiing and snowboarding. But there is more in Whistler!

This month in Whistler, the premiere of Lines is happening at MY Millennium Place. Lines is a documentary of big mountain snowboarding, something still blurry for many. Discover snowboarders outside the parks and the true definition of freeriding.

February Events in Whistler

February, like every other months, is packed with events and activities in Whistler, British Columbia. Have a look at what there is to do and see!

We start the month under the sun with the 2nd Annual Mixican Whistler Week, from January 26 to February 4. Mexicans have always come to Whistler to enjoy a bit of winter wonderland and we are glad! To celebrate this nation, special training days, shopping events, apres parties and more are planned. Mexicans and non-Mexicans alike will enjoy their time!

With February also comes the two-year wait until the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic events. To celebrate (and be patient), a month-long celebration of local arts and culture with music, exhibitions, performances...

Just after the Mexican Week, the Winter Pride is taking the scene. More skiing and boading events, more parties, more culinary diners.. More of Whistler. From February 3 to 10.

And the best of the best will stay for the next week's event: FIS World Cup Alpine Ski Races between February 18 and 24. The races will be women's Downhill and Super Combined and the men's Super G and Giant Slalom.

February 27 to 29 it will be the Snow Sculpting event on Whistler Mountain. Two creations will appear from the snow at the Roundhouse. An extraordinary art show that will only last until the sun shines.

Kokanee Valley Race Series
March 6, 2008

Fun recreational racing for skiers, telemarkers and snowboarders with different gender and age divisions. The Kokanee Valley race Series is held on Thursdays throughout the season. Pro categories are eligible for a cash prize at this fun and friendly ski series. Everyone is eligible to win tons of prizes including skis. Competitors must be at least 19 years old to participate.

Junior Freeride Competition
March 29 - 30, 2008

The Junior Freeride Competition is Whistler Blackcomb's original big mountain competition designed just for kids. Separate classes for boys and girls, 10-13 and 14-17. Helmets are mandatory and mouthguards are recommended.

Mom's Mountain Classic 2008
April 3, 2008
Open to skiing and snowboarding moms and grandmoms of all ages. This events includes morning coffee, race practice, a match-time race, lunch and après festivities. The year's race theme is "Las Vegas". Register prior to the event day at any Whistler Blackcomb Guest Relations or Ski & Snowboard School sales locations or by calling the reservation centre at 1-800-766-0449.

Sierra Wireless Whistler Cup
April 4 - 6, 2008
The Whistler Cup is in its 6th year. This race has grown to become the largest and most important ski race world-wide for athletes aged 11-14 years. With over 390 young athletes from 21 countries, Whistler Cup brings together youth from many different cultures, from around the world.

Experience the legendary fusion of music, arts and sports events, and enjoy the best spring skiing and riding in the world, at the TELUS World Ski & Snowboard Festival.

The Festival includes the following events...

Outdoor Concert Series – April 11 to 20 2008
Daily Whistler Village hosts headline acts and emerging artists pounding out the anthems of rock, reggae, hiphop and indie funk. Featured musicians include Michael Franti and Spearhead, the John Butler Trio, The Trews, Ill Scarlett, Daniel Wesley, De La Soul and Julian Marley.

Film Premiere “Seasons” – April 11, 2008
A mountain biking film highlights seven of the world’s top mountain bikers for a year. Screening happens TELUS Whistler Conference Centre.

ORAGE Masters – April 11 to 13, 2008
A team-based free-for-all approach with participants decked out in costumes. The Masters sees eight teams of four made up of the biggest names in New School skiing (one female and three male) battling head to head for the ultimate title.

Icon Gone – April 13, 2008
Storytelling with a twist, Whistler personalities take the stage in a competition over who or what is Whistler’s greatest icon. It’s sure to get a little rowdy as the crowd cheers them on. Presented in conjunction with the Whistler Museum and MY Millennium Place.

Filmmaker Showdown – April 15, 2008
72 hours of shooting, editing and producing a short film within 100 kilometres of Whistler... Whistler's infamous Filmmaker Showdown has exploded into one of the Festival's must-see showcases. Winning films go on to screenings around North America and to television audiences in over 50 countries. The competition, open to amateurs and professionals, teams or individuals - anyone who loves to make films, offers prizes worth $15,000. Gala screening at the TELUS Whistler Conference Centre.

Filmmaker Second Cuts Screening – April 16, 2008
A movie marathon event featuring all of the 2008 72 Hour Filmmaker produced shorts that came in on time. Screening at the Whistler Conference Centre.

Olympus Pro Photographer Showdown – April 17, 2008
Five of the world's best lifestyle and action sports photographers compete in the eleventh annual Pro Photographer Showdown at the TELUS World Ski & Snowboard Festival. Top prize of $10,000 will go to the 2008 crowned King of Photography.

Can-Fit-Pro Conference & Trade Show - April 18 to 20, 2008
