During the off season, there are many improvements being made to continually upgrade the road to Whistler for the upcoming 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Whistler, BC.
Road crews will resume construction on the hydro duct work during the week of March 23rd on Highway 99 from Function Junction to Village Gate Boulevard.
This project, which began in 2008 is essential for improving highway shoulder widening and pull-outs, bus stop improvement and better grading at Nordic Hill.
Phase One of the hydro duct work begins in mid-March and will finish up at the end of April.
Phase Two, which is the shoulder widening project, will begin at the end of April and continue until the middle of June.
Both projects will involve drilling, blasting and rock excavation, with some work being conducted during the night.
Advance notice will be given to businesses and residents as to when this work will be taking place.
The Nordic Hill improvements will be done from May to July this year but not to worry, this construction will take place in the evenings, which will minimize any inconvenience to travelers.
Road closures will take place between 11pm-2am and 3am-5am.
Single lane, alternating traffic will also be implemented.
