Whistler designated 2009 cultural capital of Canada
Late in January it was announced that Whistler has been designated Cultural Capital of Canada in 2009!
This nomination is very rewarding for all the community members who have worked to promote local and famous artists and offer a wide range of cultural events and activities in Whistler through the years.
The Whistler Arts Council, Whistler Museum and Archives Society, Whistler Film Festival and Whistler Writers are very proud of the nomination.
For years, arts and culture have played a major role in improving the quality of life of Whistler’s citizens and supporting the economic development of the municipality as a world famous tourism destination.
With this recognition of Whistler’s cultural efforts and the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games on their way, it looks like the municipality has the best of both world!
